04 Not Like Yesterday (EP)

Lyrics – 04 Not Like Yesterday

“Isn’t this place so magical?
Let’s go on an adventure…
…and maybe we can discover a whole new world…
A secret place just for us.
We could play all day and talk to the butterflies.
Will you always be my friend?”

Silently, Yes how silently,
– We’d creep out anyway,
Violently, Yes so violently,
– Repressed by what they say,
Every dare, Did we really care?
– It was worth it for a while,
Every scare, Children everywhere,
– Pain was covered by a smile.

That was the way, that each and every day, Our lives were just a game,
But not today, it’s not like yesterday, Now things aren’t quite the same.

We’re not living in a world,
Where we’d laugh hysterically,
And the friends that we once had,
Would be friends eternally,
Not like yesterday…

‘Cause we’re living in a world,
Where there’s just reality,
And the dreams that we once had,
Will just fade eventually.
Not like yesterday…

Running wild, not the only child, – In the gang who runs the town.
So carefree, climbing every tree, – And our hero was the clown.
Misty haze, summer holidays, – Mad adventures all around,
Remember when, we’d live in our den, – In child’s eyes we smell each sound.

That was how, I remember now, We’d all have our own nick-name,
But not today, not like yesterday, Now things aren’t quite the same.

We’re not living in a world,
Where we’d laugh hysterically,
And the friends that we once had,
Would be friends eternally,
Not like yesterday…

‘Cause we’re living in a world,
Where there’s just reality,
And the dreams that we once had,
Will just fade eventually.
Not like yesterday…

We had so much, for so little,
But don’t realise ’till it’s gone,
A part of us still remains,
As a child in what we’ve done.

“Do we really have to go home?
Can’t we stay forever?
I have a sandwich, some gum, and a lolly pop.
And we have each other…
…That’s all we need right?”

That was where, Love was very rare, Such innocence with no shame,
Not today, not like yesterday, Now nothing is quite the same.

We’re not living in a world,
Where we’d laugh hysterically,
And the friends that we once had,
Would be friends eternally,
Not like yesterday…

‘Cause we’re living in a world,
Where there’s just reality,
And the dreams that we once had,
Will just fade eventually.
Not like yesterday…

Not like yesterday…
Not like yesterday…

‘Cause we’re living in a world,
Where there’s just reality,
And the dreams that we once had,
Will just fade eventually…

Album Backstory:

I am what you call a Conceptual Musician and I don’t play instruments as such, a little like Malcolm McLaren. And this is a concept album made for the purpose of accompanying my autobiography, though I do intend to put a band together to reproduced it.

I am often asked how I produced my music, and no, it is not AI generated, in fact I hate the whole AI revolution. As a creative, it drives me mad when someone produces something of value and the general assumption is that it must be AI, well it’s not I’m glad to say.

In 2015 I finished writing my autobiography and five years later in 2025 it was published. Another five years later in 2025 I completed the album “Unconventional”. A self imposed personal project which cost thousands to produce, but was worth every penny.

The Lyrics: All of the lyrics for the album are 100% written by myself and I copyrighted them back in 1992. They all originated from my poetry which I used a coping mechanism and an escapism from my abusive childhood, and later tweaked then to be used as song lyrics.

The Music: As a conceptual musician I know in my head exactly the kinds of sounds I want to hear for each track and I have a good understanding of music. I paid session musicians for many aspects of many of the tracks to use as a base layer. Then with the use of DAW software I introduced some of my own created sounds, mixed, blended and remixed until I achieved the sounds that I wanted. Some of the final tweaks were produced in various other music editing tools.

The Videos: As a video editor I extensively researched stock websites and purchased professional video clips and images to suit the criteria of each story that I wanted to convey, sometimes spending days hunting for the right elements for each project.

The AI: Despite my dislike of AI I have to admit that reluctantly I did use AI for the Newsreader on the videos at the start and end of the album. And I also used AI to change my singing voice as I was not happy with production results of my own voice.

The Results: Ultimately, no matter how I created this album, it is a worthy music album in its own right. I appreciate some of the imperfections but at least I have the satisfaction of knowing that it is original and unique with an intense, relatable human story and a production of significance. Conceived, produced and mixed by myself, a time consuming project which consisted of over 2,500 files and more than 300Gb.

I thank you for your time and interest in reading my story and trust that you enjoy the album…
